WHEN IS A POND MORE THAN A POND?
Presenter: Erin C. Stiggins, P.E., CFM
Topic: What can you ask of your pond? Can it multi-task like a super mom? Or will asking it to be your heavy hitter leave you feeling like you’ve relied on a four-year-old to organize the toys – way more trouble than it’s worth? Erin will present and discuss the advantages and drawbacks of planning to use a sediment pond as a future detention pond. Can it be done? What extra actions are needed? Does it change the design? Or should you avoid it all together?
Ms. Stiggins has 12 years of civil engineering experience. Her career has focused on all aspects of H&H analysis and design. Ms. Stiggins’ experience includes flood control and drainage studies, floodplain delineations and mapping, hydraulic analysis of bridges, channel improvement design, roadway crossings, downstream assessments, watershed studies, mitigation planning, floodplain delineation, unsteady flow modeling, 1D/2D hydraulic modeling, and Letter of Map Revision applications. She is proficient with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and ArcGIS. Over the course of her career, Ms. Stiggins has used both discrete (point-based) and continuous (raster-based) mapping techniques to evaluate the potential consequences of flood inundation under potential and hypothetical conditions (100-year storm, levee de-certification, etc).
